Rain or shine, the first crops of Spring 2014 for Grapevine Farms were planted Saturday morning during their annual planting day.

Around 50 people came to plant vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, and squash. Thirty rows were planted, as well as thirty fruit trees.

Grapevine Farms director Paul Thomas says it was a fun way for parents to teach their children about farming.

"We're growing produce to help the hunger in Abilene and to help lower the cost of vegetables," Paul Thomas said.

All of the seeds planted over the weekend will go on sale to public by summer.
