The commencement ceremony has been the center of some controversy this week. A family expressed some concern about religion at the graduation and now there will be no prayer at the ceremony this evening.
Superintendent Michael Sibberson says that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, however because this is a state run - public school there are certain laws they have to abide by.
Hawley did however still have a baccalaureate ceremony in which they blessed the graduates. This event was optional, students received an invitation to attend and did so by choice.
Sibberson says tonight is about the graduates and their accomplishments over the past 13 years, and that is what everyone should concentrate on.
