Heartbeat Report: Spending Thanksgiving In the Emergency Room

Big Country hospitals see a spike in heart-related emergency visits during this particular week every year.
Many are looking forward to filling their tummies for Thanksgiving, but some people could be spending turkey day in the emergency room.

Big Country hospitals see a spike in heart-related emergency visits during this particular week every year.

Doctors say one of the reasons why we see an increase of heart failure is because of the increased consumption of salt during the holidays.

But the spike in ER visits may not always be about an actual heart attack. Heart burn can mimic a heart attack, and a heart attack can mimic indigestion.

Abilene doctors say recognizing the signs of a real heart problem is key.

Some signs include: Central chest pain and pressure, heaviness in the chest, and a little bit of numbess in the left arm.
