BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne outfielder Colton Brown and catcher Matthew Daniel were selected to the 2014 D3Baseball.com All-West Region Teams the website announced, May 19th.
Colton Brown was a First Team All-Conference selection as an outfielder. Starting in all 43 games for Howard Payne, Brown led the Jackets with a .337 avg at the plate. He also led the team in hits and was third in the ASC in hits with 55 and runs scored with 39. His team high six homeruns was also good for second in the league. He led the ASC in total bases with 93. Brown was also 14 of 18 on stolen base attempts this season.
A Second Team All-Conference selection as a catcher, Matthew Daniel started in the 41 of the 41 games he played in for the Yellow Jackets. He hit .301 driving in a team high 27 runs on 40 hits. He had one triple, eight doubles and four homeruns of the Jackets.
The American Southwest Conference was well represented as 14 league players from seven different member institutions were selected. The 14 ASC selections are the most among West Region conferences.
Players were nominated for the All-Region awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various institutions. The 2014 season marks the third year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 774 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
