A ruling has come in on the Klapheke change of venue hearing.

Closing arguments began Tuesday morning in the change of venue hearing for the Tiffany Klapheke case.

Klapheke has been charged for neglecting her three children, resulting in the death of her 22-month-old last year.

The defense argued that the case has received too much local coverage and, therefore, did not feel Klapheke could receive a fair trial in Taylor County.

However, the judge ruled Tuesday morning that the trial will remain in Taylor County.

08/26/13 Update

On Tuesday morning, August 27, closing arguments will be heard in the change of venue hearing for the Klapheke case.

Earlier in the month, both citizens and members of the local Abilene media were called to testify on the local coverage of the case and whether or not such coverage would prevent Tiffany Klapheke from receiving a fair trial in Taylor County.

08/09/13 11:30 Update

The change of venue hearing for the Klapheke trial has ended.

The judge will now review the evidence and set a date for a final decision.

Along with BigCountryHomepage.com’s news director, testimony was also given by KTAB’s Victor Sotelo regarding media coverage of the case.

The defense argued that due to the media coverage, Tiffany Klapheke could not receive a fair trial in Taylor County.

However, several citizens also took the stand, testifying that though they had watched media coverage of the case, they felt they could separate the news from the legal proceedings.

We will have an update on the results of the hearing once a decision has been made.

08/09/13 Original Story

The change of venue hearing for the Tiffany Klapheke trial began Friday.

Klapheke was charged with injury to a child after her then 22-month-old daughter died of neglect late last year.

The defense is arguing that due to heavy media coverage of the case, the trial should be changed to another venue outside of Taylor County.

BigCountryHomepage.com’s news director, Kevin Osgood, took the stand Friday morning in order to present the local coverage appearing on BigCountryHomepage.com since the story broke.

The prosecution, on the other hand, is arguing that several cases that received intense local media coverage over the past few years have been successfully tried in Taylor County.

We have reporters in the courtroom and will have more on the hearing as it continues.
