The Hawley Lady Bearcats earned their 1st trip to the State Softball Tournament since 1997 last weekend by beating the Comanche Maidens.

The Lady Bearcats are headed down to Austin with 31 wins and just 7 loses this season.

The playoffs were a struggle with 2 series going the distance, and 4 games were decided by 2 runs or less.

State is here and the girls are ready to go.

"You know, we're really excited. It's my first trip. It's their first trip. We're just trying to remain calm and confident. It's unbelievable," said head coach Amber Riddle.

"I'm really nervous, but I'm confident in my team. I believe we can win. If we put our minds to it, we can win this game(s). We can win them, and we can win state," said senior Megan Verette.

"I'm just ready for the feeling of walking into the stadium. Feeling that...I don't know what the feeling is going to be like. I'm waiting to see what that feeling is going to be like," said Maci Brewer.

Hawley takes on Santa Gertrudis Academy on Wednesday night down in Austin. The game starts at 6pm.
