Santa Gertrudis Academy would rally with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion.
Jordan Anderson said, "Being a junior last year, it was definitely devastating, but knowing that I had another year to come back and win it all."
Fast forward a year later, and that is still the last team to beat the Lady Bearcats.
Maci Brewer added, "Our coaches never did say, "Hey, our goal is to go to state. It was kind of a given. Like, we drive ourselves each practice, each game to get to this point."
Anderson said, "We're more of a mature team now. Since we've been there before, we know what to expect, and it's not as nerve racking."
Now the Lady Bearcats return to the scene of the crime, and with the same goal of bringhing a state title back to Hawley.
"Play every game like it's our last, work as a team, get our bats going, have a solid defense. It'll all fall into place," said Brewer.
When asked about the affect last year's loss had on her players, head coach Amber Cottingham replied in one brief sentence, "it's what drives them." Now it will drive them back to state, where they will meet East Bernard in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
