The lake is only about 30% full right now and this could be the cause of concern for boaters. According to Game Warden Roy Johnson, people should exercise caution while boating this weekend.
Low lake levels mean a greater chance for damage to your boat due to exposed rocks and points or even getting stuck.
There is also a concern for proper boating safety. Johnson says that a big problem is age appropriate life jackets for every member aboard your boat. For instance, children should not use adult sized life jackets. If they should fall in the water, the bigger life jacket runs the risk of slipping off and therefore rendering itself useless.
Johnson also advises anyone swimming in the lake to wear shoes. There are exposed rocks and also broken glass.
While alcohol is prohibited at certain areas of the lake the warden states that they will still be on the look out for anyone operating any motor vehicle on land or in the water while intoxicated. He says it is not something to be taken lightly and the best idea is to predesignate a driver each day that you go out.
