A group of motorcyclists all involved in separate distracted driving accidents are working towards stopping texting and driving in Texas.

The group says they have well over 150 letters from the community backing their push for a city ordinance making cell phone use in the car hands-free. They will present those letters to the city council at the next meeting.

One of the instructors from the Motorcycle Safety School of Abilene said he signed a letter because he was injured in a distracted driving accident, leaving him to use a crutch two years later. He said getting rid of cell phones behind the wheel could make everyone on the road safer.
