Looking Ahead: Future of Lincoln Middle School Building

City Council will vote to take steps towards the revitalization of the Lincoln Middle School building.
The last time Lincoln Middle School was buzzing with students was in May of 2007. The building was originally built in 1923 and served as Abilene High School before it moved to its current location.

Around a year ago, AISD turned over the deed to the Lincoln Middle School building to the City of Abilene. Since then, the city has been working to determine how to best re purpose the building. City Council members will vote to possibly hire a company to do a feasibility study. If they do decide to do the study, the city will receive the results in a few months. The results would include thorough conditions of the building as well as possibilities for what this building could be turned into.

Businesses along South 1st street near the 91 year old building say they would love to see something up and running in that location. Randy Levrets of Levrets Ink says that he does not particularly care what goes into the building, anything is better than just a vacant one. He did mention that it would be nice for some kind of community center inside the historic building would  be good for the surrounding area.
