Former Stamford head coach Wayne Hutchinson was approved by the Lubbock Independent School District.
Former Stamford head coach Wayne Hutchinson was approved by the Lubbock Independent School District, and he was introduced as the new Athletic Director and head football coach at Lubbock Monterey.

Hutchinson's only other head coach experience is at the Class A level, but he says he up for the challenge of 6A football.

However, the decision to leave Stamford for Monterey wasn't an easy one.

Coach Hutchinson said, "You know, it's one of the hardest things. I address our kids yesterday, and it's one of the hardest things I've done in my profession because you go to a place. You throw your whole heart and soul into a program, and you took it from being at the very bottom, and you reached the pinnacle. It was a hard thing to do, I think I've left the program in great shape. Whoever takes the reins is going to pick up and never look back., but today is an exciting day for me. The Good Lord puts you where he wants you, and He's landed me here in Lubbock. I'm gonna take that opportunity and try and build champions, and I'm just grateful for that."

While he was at Stamford, Hutchinson won 76 games and made 3 appearances in the state championship game and won 2 state titles. In his career, Hutchinson is 106-37.
