AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University’s women’s basketball team closed out its four-game road swing on Saturday afternoon, falling at St. Edward’s University, 67-52, at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
The Hilltoppers (15-6, 10-5 HC) led wire-to-wire over the War Hawks (3-19, 3-13 HC). SEU led at the intermission, 36-20.
McMurry’s offense was led by senior forward Keshia Collins, who had 16 points on a 6-of-12 shooting day from the field and 4-of-6 from the free throw stripe as the only McM player in double digits. Collins also pulled down four rebounds, passed off for two assists, made two steals and had a block.
Sophomore guard Sierra Maykus added nine points and freshman Katy Boren 6 points off the War Hawks’ bench. Ana Dominguez, Jaryn Koenig, Adijatu Disu and Angela Snow added four points, apiece.
Dominguez also had two blocked shots.
Sophomore forward Taylor Russell and junior transfer Tineka Lawson each corralled five rebounds to lead the War Hawks.
The host Hilltoppers out-shot McMurry from the charity line, hitting 18-of-26 compared to 11-of-14 by McM. The War Hawks did not even attempt a free throw until the 16:25 mark of the second half when Collins canned a pair of shots.
SEU also held a 41-34 advantage in total rebounds, out-scoring McM 38-28 on points in the paint and 21-10 on second-chance points. The War Hawks bench out-dueled St. Edward’s, 25-10, in reserve scoring.
