One Year Anniversary of Wreck that Claimed Life of ACU Student

January 25th, 2014 marks the one year anniversary of a head on collision that left one Abilene man and one ACU student dead. Several others were injured.
On January 25th, 2013 around 8pm, six ACU students were on their way to go dancing at the Grand Ole Oplin when a truck driven by Abilene citizen, Jeff Davis, crashed into their truck. Twenty-Seven year old Davis and twenty year old Lindsey Smith were both killed in the accident.

Lindsey Smith, originally from New Braunfels, TX, was a junior Public Relations major. Friends describe her as someone who lived life to the fullest and had many friends. She was passionate about dancing and the drama club. Friend Eric Schinske recalls that Lindsey was a person that would just light up the room and is dearly missed.

Brittany Jackson, ACU student and writer for the ACU Optimist, recalls that the weeks following the accident, the campus was solemn and it seemed as though everyone was searching for answers.

Since Lindsey's passing, her friends set up a fundraiser dance called the Red Boot Roundup in order to gather funds for a scholarship in Lindsey's name. The scholarship will help fund study abroad programs, the drama club, as well as some of the other interests that Lindsey had.
