Quick Treatment Crucial to Surviving a Stroke

A new report finds many women aren't aware of all of the signs of a stroke.
Quick treatment is often crucial to survive a stroke. In a telephone survey of more than 1,200 women, more than half correctly identified one of the major warning signs.

The sign that is usually recognized is sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the face or body.

Less than half of the women surveyed knew other important signs such as difficulty speaking, sudden severe headache, dizziness and sudden vision loss.

A quarter of Hispanic respondents knew none of the warning signs.

Experts say stroke risk is greatest among racial minority groups, including Hispanics and African-Americans.
