Multiple reports surfaced late Tuesday night that Penn State head football coach Bill O'Brien had been hired by the Houston Texans.

ESPN was first to report that O'Brien would be named the next head coach in Houston. Numerous reports started surfacing soon after, including a report from the Houston Chronicle that O'Brien's hiring could be officially announced as soon as Thursday.

For the past two years, O'Brien has been the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. During that time O'Brien led Penn State to a 15-9 record.

O'Brien was hired by Penn State after the Jerry Sandusky scandal that led to the termination of long-time head coach Joe Paterno.

Prior to coming to Penn State, Obrien was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.

Now O'Brien will return to the NFL, and be charged with turning around a Houston Texans team that finished 2013 with a 2-14 record.

On the positive side for O'Brien, the Texans have been to the playoffs two of the past three seasons, and will have the top pick in the NFL Draft next spring.
