ABILENE - ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley announced Tuesday that he has hired Mary Hardin-Baylor head volleyball coach Rob Frost to become the new leader of the Wildcats' program.

Frost will be the eighth head coach in ACU volleyball history, replacing Kellen Mock, who served as the head coach from 2006-13. Frost will officially begin his tenure at ACU on June 1.

"First I want to thank the search committee and Jared Mosley for putting their trust in me," Frost said. "I'm very excited and thankful to be part of the ACU athletics department. The coaches and everyone I met at ACU are great people, unified and committed to the mission of the university and competitive/successful athletics.  I knew right away that my coaching philosophy lined up perfectly with the mission of ACU and the athletics department."

Frost has been the head coach at Mary Hardin-Baylor the last three seasons, leading the Crusaders to a 72-27 mark and reviving a program that was a combined 18-46 in the two seasons (2009-10) prior to his arrival.

UMHB set an NCAA Division III-era school record for wins in each of those seasons topped by a 29-8 mark in 2013. The Cru advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament for the first time in program history and also received votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll for the first time in 2013. UMHB has advanced to three straight American Southwest Conference championship tournaments under Frost's direction to post another first in program history.

"Rob's experience and skill set are a great match for leading us through this transition and building the type of program we aspire to have at the NCAA Division I level," Mosley said. "Rob has had four very successful seasons as a head coach and six seasons as a successful assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level. I'm looking forward to Rob joining  our Wildcat family and leading our volleyball program."

Frost went to UMHB from Bowling Green State University, where he served as an assistant coach for the Falcons volleyball team for four seasons. Frost helped lead Bowling Green to a 67-63 record, a pair of 20-plus-win seasons and three Mid-American Conference Tournament appearances in his four years with the Falcons.

"This is a great hire for ACU," former Bowling Green head coach Denise Van De Walle said. "I truly believe that this is the job Rob has been preparing for his entire career. It's a perfect fit for both parties. Rob's faith is very important to him and getting this opportunity is exactly what he wanted. He is a fantastic coach and an even better person. He has a great mind for the game, he's very organized and an extremely hard worker. The players will enjoy playing for Rob. He's tough but truly cares about them, and they'll see that. He's a proven winner and I have no doubt that he will make an immediate impact at ACU. I look forward to following their success."

Frost spent the 2006 season as the head volleyball coach at Belhaven College prior to joining the Bowling Green coaching staff. Frost led Belhaven to a 25-11 record and a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title in his one season with Blazers. Frost has also served as an assistant coach at Cleveland State University, Taylor University and Moody Bible Institute. Cleveland State posted a 34-23 record during Frost's two seasons on campus, Taylor went 33-15 in his one season and Moody Bible Institute posted a 27-11 mark and won the NCCAA Division II Midwest Region Championship during his tenure.

Frost is a 1999 graduate of Moody Bible Institute, earning a degree in Education and Youth Ministry. He completed his Master's Degree in Sports Management at Cleveland State University in 2005.

Frost takes over an ACU program that is 327-166 since the start of the 1999 season and in the fall will play a full Southland Conference schedule.

"When I visited the ACU campus, I felt a genuine pride and passion from the coaches and staff to deliver the best athletics programs, as well as have a positive ministry and influence on the student-athletes," Frost said. "It was an environment that I immediately felt comfortable in and I knew I wanted to be part of that community. To be able to coach at this level and work with a team and department  that wants to honor God in every way has been my goal for years. I know the players are excited, and we are all ready to work hard and continue the winning tradition of ACU volleyball."
