The Hawley Lady Bearcats and the Albany Lady Lions start the State Tournament on Wednesday in Austin.

Hawley put together their best 2 games of the playoffs last week to beat Comanche to advance to the state tournament for the 1st time since 1997.

The Lady are ready to get down to Austin for the tournament, but it did take a little while for it to sink in that they were state bound.

The Lady Bearcats Maci Brewer said, "I still don't think it's hit us.  After the win, it was awesome. We felt the awesome feeling of, yeah, we are going to state, but it still hasn't hit me that we are actually there. Especially since it hasn't happened in a while."

Coach Riddle says, "It was unbelievable. They were just on a high. You just couldn't shut them down at all. On the bus ride home, they were not quiet."

Meagan Verette added,"It felt absolutely great. I really don't know how to describe it. I was so emotional. I mean, it's my last year, so I have to admit I was crying. I was pretty happy though. I was excited because I've been this far before."

Hawley takes on Santa Gertrudis Academy on Wednesday night down in Austin. The game starts at 6pm. Santa Gertrudis hasn't lost to any school smaller than Class 5A this year.
