There are a lot of changes this year for the Wildcats after going 6-5 in their first season of division one football.
One will be the visibility of the ACU program this fall. The Cats will open the 2014 campaign on national television when they take on Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. They will also take on Troy in the third week of the season on ESPN3.
The team that people see will also be different from last year's with the departure of quarterback John David Baker, running back Charcandrick West, and receiver Taylor Gabriel. ACU will also have to replace three offensive lineman from a year ago as well.
The rebuilding process for ACU will start at quarterback with five players competing for the starting job.
With the changes at the quarterback spot, look for redshirt junior, and former Abilene High Eagle, Herschel Sims to be the feature back for the Wildcats. The former five-star recruit is eligible this year after sitting a season after transferring from Lamar.
The experience the Wildcats return this year is on the defensive side of the ball, and especially on the defensive line. In all the Wildcats return all four defensive linemen from a year ago. That includes defensive end Nick Richardson, who made a lot of noise as a freshman for Ken Collums.
The secondary also brings back safeties Angel Lopez and Justin Stewart. tyler Chapa and keith Barnett also got some starts last season at cornerback.
It's another year of transition for the Wildcats and head coach Ken Collums. It will be their first full Southland Conference schedule this year, but the Wildcats will are still ineligible for the postseason until 2017.
