Top Matchups of 2011: Week 2

Abilene High, Brownwood, Breckenridge, and Bangs are featured in the Top Matchups of Week 2 in the 2011 season.
The Abilene High Eagles continue their tradition of playing teams from other states. Head coach Steve Warren and the Eagles welcome Booker T. Washington High School from Tulsa. Abilene High's new lineup will have 2 games of experience when they face the defending Oklahoma Class 5A state champions. Washington defense didn't allow a touchdown during the playoffs in 2010, but they will be rebuilding this year. The Eagles and the Jackets will be one of the marque matchups in the country that week.

The Brownwood Lions and the Stephenville Yellowjackets are set to get back together again in 2011. The Lions rolled over the state ranked Jackets in 2010. Head coach Bob Shipley's team fell behind by 3 points in the 2nd quarter and then scored 42 of the next 48 points to get the victory. This year, the Lions are rebuilding but still ranked 18th in the state in the preseason. Stephenville is ranked 8th in Class 4A. Brownwood will be counting on running back Stehl Ratliff to lead the way early on in 2011.

Now to Class 2A and a battle between 2 teams that picked to go to the playoffs this season. Bangs and Breckenridge are both supposed to fight for the district championship in their districts. Breckenridge beat the Dragons in 2010 for the 3rd straight win in the Steve Freeman era with the Bucks. Bangs answered that loss with 5 straight wins. The Dragons have 10 positions filled with starters in 2011. The Bucks start the season with 8 returners.
