The supermarket will be located at 300 West Commerce, the former home of Bruner Auto.
"Brownwood just feels like us", said Sidney Hopper the COO of The United Family "we have the good fortune of operating in a lot of West Texas cities and it just felt like the folks here and everybody that we have come in contact with were just folks that we are accustomed to being a part of."
This is United Supermarket's second project this year and citizens of Brownwood may be getting more than they expected with the new store.
"We've developed a convenience store chain over the last several years to try to make us something unique that you'll like that is basically an extension of our United Supermarket brand," said Tony Crumpton, EVP of Facility-fuel supply, " You know you may not think of United and think of fuel but this will be our 30th fueling location with nine of those being full-on convenience store."
The stores are expected to bring 140 to 160 new jobs to Brownwood, with an estimated payroll of $1,350,000 per year. They will sit on a 9.8-acre site, with the United Express located near the corner of Commerce and Riverside Park Drive.
Robert Taylor, the President of United Company, says, "It's going to be a state-of-arts store for us, there's going to be a lot of food service. We are going to put a convenience store out here on the corner where you can pick up things that maybe you forgot, a quick in-and-out."
As for United Supermarkets, Brownwood is the furthest South they've ever built.
The Director of Communications, Eddie Owens, is excited. He says, "You know our real estate team is always on the look out for perspective new store locations so we hope that this is the beginning of many many more in the Central Texas area."
Ray Tipton from the Chamber of Commerce, says, "I just want to, on behalf of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, welcome United to Brownwood and we hope we have a great partnership with them and I know it will be beneficial to us and the community at large."
The United Supermarket and United Express will begin construction in October and is expected to be completed by July 2015.
