United Way of Abilene is stepping up to assist their Community Partners that experienced recent hail damage with Emergency Assistance Funds. On Monday, June 16, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., United Way will present a check for $5,000 to offset the expenses of damaged vehicles to the Boys & Girls Club of Abilene at their Martinez Elementary facility. Five Boys & Girls Club vans that are used to transport youth year round were damaged by last week’s storm.
“We are honored to help out the Boys & Girls Club with this gift. The damages from last week’s storm were devastating to many families and organizations in our area. We hope that this gift will help the Club get their vans back in use to benefit the children,” said Cathy Ashby, United Way of Abilene president/CEO.
The Emergency Assistance Fund at United Way of Abilene was created to provide assistance for nonprofit agencies and the community in times of crisis. Emergency assistance funds were last used following the Spring 2011 hail storm and wildfire danger.
Community members interested in making a contribution to the Emergency Assistance Fund may contact United Way of Abilene at 677-1841.
