Update: Firefighter Suffered Minor Injuries During Friday Night Fire

The Abilene Fire Department and the Texas Forest Service are battling a large fire in a field of wooden pallets in west Abilene

One firefighter suffered minor injuries to his face during a fire on Ruidoso Street Friday night. According to AFD, a metal building was lost in the fire. Initially, they were unable to get equipment into the yard to fight the fire.

The cause has yet to be determined.

Update 1:03 am

The fire seems to be under control. Authorities have told us that an arson investigation will be underway. All bystanders were ordered to evacuate the scene a short while ago.

Abilene firefighters are battling to get the upper hand on a fire that has engulfed a large field of wooden pallets in west Abilene.

The blaze was reported just before 10 p.m. Friday, next to Abilene Bowling Lanes on Ruidosa Avenue. The old Sam's Club on S. 1st is also nearby.

Several fire engines and trucks have responded to the scene, as well as personnel from the Texas Forest Service. The fire has engulfed at least one storage building.

Residents of the nearby Alameda Addition have been converging on the area to witness the blaze.

So far there are no reports of injuries or damage to other homes or businesses.
