Update: Victim of Deadly Motorcycle Crash Identified

A 20-year-old Abilene man was killed after losing control of his motorcycle Wednesday evening
Thursday Morning Update: Abilene police have identified the motorcyclist as 20-year-old Diego Olvera Barajas of Abilene. Below is a news release from APD:

On June 18th, 2014 at approximately 7:55pm the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major motorcycle collision. The collision occurred on the exit ramp of northbound State Loop 322 at its entry to the northbound lane of South Treadaway. The motorcycle was a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 being ridden by Diego Olvera Barajas, 20, of Abilene. The preliminary investigation indicates that Barajas was traveling at a high rate of speed on the exit ramp. Barajas was not able to successfully negotiate the curve and left the roadway to the left. The motorcycle went to the ground on its right side and slid until impacting the guard rail. Barajas became separated from the motorcycle and also impacted the guard rail. Barajas was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe. Barajas was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.


Update 9:00 p.m.

According to APD, a motorcyclist hit the guard rail under the overpass, no other vehicles were involved.

Abilene police are investigating a deadly wreck on Treadaway under Loop 322 overpass.

It happened around 8 p.m. this evening. Traffic is currently blocked off on Treadaway.
