A large grass fire erupted near Tye along I-20 between Mile Marker 278 and 280 Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters and the forest service have gained control of the flames as they continue to put out patches and watch for shifting winds.

Units were originally put in place to protect a home to the north of the fire, but the fire was successfully contained before it could reach it.

Taylor County Sheriff Ricky Bishop says the fire may have been caused by people using welding or cutting tools and estimates around 20 acres were burned.

The Texas Forest Service used "backfires" to make certain the fire did not skip to the other side of the road.

No injuries have been reported.
