Water Week: Lake Fort Phantom

Water Week: Lake Fort Phantom

The 2014 drought continues to take its toll on Lake Fort Phantom. Now at 43 percent capacity, levels will drop if dry weather continues to hover the Big Country.
The dry weather over the past year continues to threaten Lake Fort Phantom water levels.

Located just north of town, Lake Fort Phantom is a vital source for Abilene's drinking water. At just under 43% capacity, the lake continues to be hit hard by the current drought.

A lack of steady rainfall over the past year can be seen throughout the area as boat ramps are now partially filled with mud and grass.

Tommy O'Brien from the City of Abilene says the drought is something they are taking seriously and continue to monitor the levels at Lake Fort Phantom.
