EL PASO, Texas - Sisters Kaysie and Micah Hermsdorf along with sophomore Nada Marjanvovic all were a perfect 4-0 Saturday as the Abilene Christian women's tennnis team swept a doubleheader against Conference USA Schools Southern Miss and Texas-El Paso at the El Paso Tennis Center.
ACU won each match by a 5-2 margin in raising its season record to 6-2. With the loss, UTEP fell to 3-6 and Southern Miss to 2-7.
On the day, ACU won five of six doubles contests to improve to 23-12 (.657) on the season. The teams of Hermsdorf/Hermsdorf and Marjanovic/Emily Conrad each went 2-0 at the No. 1 and 3 positions, while the No. 2 duo of Reed and Walker went 1-1, with their one defeat coming by a single point at 8-7.
The two wins keep the Hermsdorf sister undefeated in dual matches this spring at 7-0, while Conrad and Marjanovic went two games above .500 at 7-5.
In singles competition, the Wildcats were successful in nine of 12 matches with all their wins coming in straight sets. Micah Hermsdorf won both her matches at No. 1, first beating Davina Meza of UTEP, 6-4, 6-2, and later Mahitha Dadireddy of Southern Miss, 6-4, 6-4 in improving to 7-3 overall and 7-1 at No. 1.
Kaysie, meanwhile, beat UTEP's Matilda Rose Tench, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and USM's Karina Gurgenyan, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4. The younger Hermsdorf is now 6-4 this spring, which includes a 3-3 mark at No. 4 and 2-0 record at No. 5.
Marjanovic still claims the team's best winning percentage at .800 (8-2) after beating UTEP's Daphne Visscher, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Golden Eagle Kathrin Waidner at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2.
Also winning in singles today were Conrad at No. 6 over UTEP's Anastasiya Sylenko, and Walker at No. 3 against Southern Miss' Lisa Noderer.
The Wildcats conclude their three-match road trip Sunday at 10 a.m. at New Mexico State. The Aggies beat the ACU men, 6-1, Saturday.
