Abilene High started the day against the Coppell Cowboys. The Eagles took a 12-0 advantage heading into halftime. In the second half they were able to stretch that lead to 18-0 before Coppell could put two touchdowns on the board.
The Eagles were able to hold on for a 18-13 win and advanced to the next round. They were squeak out a one point victory over Midlothian in the second round to move on to the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile the Cooper Cougars found themselves paired against Cinco Ranch in the first round. The Cougars wasted little time putting points on the board in their first round game.
First quarterback Lorenzo Joe found sophomore wide-out Aaron Anderson for a long touchdown to give Cooper the lead. The Cougars would then put two more unanswered touchdowns on the board in the first half and take a 21-0 lead.
They would cruise to a 56-28 win over Cinco Ranch. The Cougars would then go on to defeat San Antonio Johnson in the next round to advance to the quarterfinals.
Cooper and Abilene High would then find themselves matched against one another with a trip to the semifinals on the line. In typical Crosstown Showdown fashion, the game was tight until the very end. Cooper would hold for a 40-35 victory and advance to the semifinals.
The Cougars would find themselves down 13 points at halftime to Arlington Lamar in the semifinals, and were unable to rally in the second half. Arlington Lamar would advance to the championship game with the 38-33 victory.
