On Saturday, potential Republican candidates filed an application requesting to run for office.
Taylor County Republican Office accepted applications from people hoping to reach the Republican primary ballot in March.
Chairman Joyce Ellinger says this year's race is important because of the increase number of Democrats battling in this term.
"We're in the heat of the battle ground where Democrats are trying to come in and take over and they will not win Texas," Ellinger said. "Texas will always be red but it's going to take some reaching out to people to show them what the Republican party is all about."
The last day to file an application is December 9th at 6 p.m.
