The four Big Country universities were all ranked on a variety of criteria. Complete ranking methodology can be found here:
 
In the “Regional University, West Region” category, Abilene Christian University ranked #19, and Hardin-Simmons University ranked #39.
 
In the “Regional College, West Region” category, Howard Payne University in Brownwood ranked #14, and McMurry University ranked #15.
 
Regional Universities are described as “schools that offer many bachelors, some masters and few Ph.D. programs.”
 
Regional Colleges are described as “schools that grant fewer than half of their degrees in liberal arts disciplines,” though many of the schools are actually universities.
