ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's football team had four players selected by USA Football on its 2013 Pre-Season All-America teams, it has been announced. The War Hawks are coming off of an 8-3 season and will be playing their second year as an NCAA Division II program.
Named to the First Team is senior long snapper Matt Barnes. Barnes, from The Woodlands, Texas (College Park H.S.), has handled the War Hawks' long-snapping duties all three of his previous seasons, as well as backing up on the offensive line.
Named as Third Team honorees on offense were junior receiver Greg Livingston and sophomore lineman Nolan Nasis.
Livingston (Spring, Texas/Spring H.S.) had a banner season in 2012, making a school-record 97 catches for 1,060 yards (10.9 y.p.c.) and seven touchdowns. His was the second-most productive season in terms of receiving yardage in school history (behind only the 1,131 yards amassed by R.J. Long in 2010).
Nasis, at 6'4" and 295-lbs., was a mainstay on the War Hawks' o-line that protected record-setting quarterback Jake Mullin in 2012. Nasis is from Bulverde, Texas and Smithson Valley H.S.
Making the Third Team list on defense was senior defensive back Cory Pippen, Pippen (Cisco, Texas/Cisco H.S.), a transfer last season from Cisco J.C., was second on the team with total tackles (48 solo) his first season in the Maroon and White. He also had five passes defended, one quarterback hurry, one blocked kick and two forced fumbles. Pippen registered one interception and one sack, as well.
McMurry opens its 2013 season on Saturday, September 7 at Shotwell Stadium versus Abilene Christian. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
