West Texas is thankful for the recent abundance of rain, and some farmers are seeing the benefits. With August in full swing, the Abilene Area Farmers Market is beginning to pick up the pace. After a slow start, and a late freeze, crops are finally doing better. More rain equals lower irrigation costs and less of a salt build up, which can be a hinderance to crops. Vegetables are doing well and melons are a little bigger this year. Soon farmers will be preparing for the fall. The Abilene Area Farmer’s Market meets every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning located on North 3rd and Mesquite across from Frontier Texas.
