Crews started tearing up the old turf before Christmas and the new turf is being installed. Paragon Sports Construction crews thought it would take until February the 4th to complete it, but now workers are telling KTAB news that the project could be finished by January 17th (which would be just in time for for soccer season).
The new turf cost just under $430-thousand dollars. It is designed to drain rain water through the turf. The head coach of the Brownwood Lions say it's a big improvement from the old field.
The turf material is expected to last about ten years. It is the same material used inside top soccer and football stadiums. The old turf will be used in batting cages for baseball and softball.
