The Bearcats were picked to finish near the bottom of the district this year, but a funny thing has happened, they are playing lights out.
Hawley has rolled thru their 1st 2 games by the average score of 44 to 7... Brad Schoonmaker says young guys have stepped up in his 2nd year as head coach.
"It's the second year in the system, and I think they are understanding things a little bit better. We've changed our defense up a little bit and they are buying into that as well, I think the young kids that moved up from JV are executing kinda like we expected, but stepping out more quicker than they have, and I appreciate their work ethic through the summer, I think that's probably been the biggest surprise as in what we were going to get out of them. We thought more later in the season once they got used to the Friday night lights, but they've gotten used to it pretty quick and its been a good advantage for us."
The Bearcats travel to Hamlin for their toughest game of the season thus far. The Pied Pipers are ranked 9th in the state in Class A Division 2.
