The Lyric Theatre in downtown Brownwood has been around since the nineteen hundreds and thanks to a hard working organization it's now under restoration. It took about ten years for construction to start because the organization who owns the theater was trying to raise money. Once they did they renovated the exterior which cost about a quarter of million dollars. A month ago they started construction on the interior.
The design for the interior will be a 1914 prairie style restoration. The last performance in there was ten years ago which was Cinderella. Before that it was a dress shop. But the Lyric Performing Arts Company is excited to have a new theater. They have been using a building at HPU to have their performances but once the Lyric is complete they will have their own space. But they still need help from the community. They have set up a site for the community to buy theater chairs for thousand dollars or donate what they can.
They hope to have the theater done by May 2014 and at the end of this month they will announce their opening performance for July. The theater means so much to the community and it will provide a place for local artists to showcase their talents.
