HSU Beats McMurry To Remain Unbeaten In ASC

ABILENE, Texas - Trailing by 21 points with 12:40 remaining McMurry University battled back to a two-point deficit, after a three-point play by Bryce Hill with 13.3 seconds left. McMurry immediately fouled and Hardin-Simmons University hit one of two free throws McMurry got the ball back with 13 seconds left on the clock. Jaden Isler's first 3-point shot hit the back iron; Hill grabbed the rebound and put up a last second prayer that rolled around the rim finally jumping out of the basket.
 
McMurry fell behind 10-6 in the first four minutes of the match after a Cowboy jumper. McMurry keep the score close trailing by six with 4:26 to play in the first half when HSU strung together an 11-5 run to end the half up 12. The War Hawks were held to just 24 percent shooting effort in the first half and did not hit a single three-point bucket. HSU went 12-31 from the floor in the first half.
 
The War Hawks opened up the second half with a 8-0 run capped up by a free throw by Dominick Walker to make the score 37-33 in favor of HSU with 18:10 remaining in the game. Over the next 5:30 HSU exploded for a 21-5 run to give the Cowboys the 21-point lead with 12:40 remaining.
 
Cowboy Matt Addison went to the line a game high 20 times, accounting for 17 of his 25 total points. McMurry's Jaden Isler scored a team high 19 points, including a three-point bucket with 40 seconds left on the clock to make the score 78-75. Walker dominated the glass with 19 rebounds adding eight points on the night. Steven Jones recorded 18 points and 16 rebounds adding two steals defensively.
 
The loss drops McMurry to 7-2 overall with a 4-2 American Southwest Conference record. HSU remains on top of the ASC West Division with the win at 8-0 on the season and 6-0 in ASC play. McMurry returns to action December 30 against Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M. at 7 p.m.
