Local Farm Helps Educate the Community on Healthy Eating

Grapevine Farms is a non-profit organization that strives to produce naturally grown produce and poultry.
Grapevine Farms is preparing to plant produce, grow berries and vegetables, and produce poultry and beef for the first time in several years. The drought has kept them from operating the past few years, but 2014 will be an exciting year for the non-profit farm.

Grapevine Farms operates with the goal of bringing naturally grown produce and meats to the Big Country. They also strive to educate the public on how to eat healthy and why nutrition is important.

Director of Grapevine Farms, Paul Thomas, understands that nutritious foods far exceed the cost for unhealthy meals, but wants to make sure that all families have access to healthy foods. Thomas explains that once the farm is up and running, people can come work and volunteer in exchange for fruits and vegetables. The whole farm will be based on a honor system and will continue to operate with the community's support.

Thomas said that if people that can afford the food do their part and pay a fair price, then people who cannot afford food will be able to put in what they can and earn the produce through working.

Saturday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Grapevine Farms will be hosting a Wine and Music festival in order to raise money for the farm. Find out more about the farm's mission and Saturday's event at their website.
