In a community with many gracious volunteers, another Abilene man is being recognized for giving his time through a national contest put on by Home Instead's Salute to Senior Services.

Dozens of Meals on Wheels volunteers rush in and out of the kitchen every morning preparing for their deliveries, but the process wouldn't be complete without picking up their routes from Ernest Caslani.

Caslani, also known as "Cas," not only runs meal deliveries himself, but is also a big part in making sure that all 77 routes are taken care of.

After serving in the Air Force for 23 years and working with the city for two decades, Cas has spent over 10 years volunteering at organizations such as the Big Country Retired Senior Volunteer Program, AARP Tax assistance and on base at DYESS, all in addition to Meals on Wheels.

Now Cas is one of a few Big Country residents that have been nominated in a national contest for this year's salute to senior service award. An honor that he didn't even know he was nominated for until this morning which, to him, makes volunteering that much more meaningful.

You can still vote for Ernest Caslani, or any of the other nominees, through April 30th at salutetoseniorservice.com.
