Man Arrested on Felony Theft Warrant for Vending Machine Burglary

The Abilene Police Department arrested Xavier H. Sanchez, 42, at his residence in the 2400 block of Westmoreland Street on a felony theft warrant for his alleged involvement in the burglary of a vending machine.
On the late afternoon of October 25, officers with the Abilene Police Department arrested Xavier H. Sanchez, 42, at his residence in the 2400 block of Westmoreland Street on a felony theft warrant.

Sanchez is believed to be one of several suspects involved in recent coin-operated machine burglaries. Sanchez was the focus of one recent investigation that linked him to a burglary of a vending machine located at a business in the 3900 block of Ridgemont Drive.

APD’s Street Crime Unit has been investigating these burglaries for about a month. Sanchez is one of two suspects they have identified, contacted and interviewed during their investigations.

The investigation at the Ridgemont address revealed that Sanchez was observed on security surveillance imagery breaking into the victim’s vending machine. There were two vending machines at the business. One was burglarized, the other sustained damage from attempted entry. Sanchez stole an undisclosed quantity of money from the machine.

Offenses involving such machines are typically categorized as Class A misdemeanors. However, because Sanchez had previous convictions for theft, he was arrested on the enhanced charge of felony theft. Sanchez was booked at the Taylor County Jail with a bond of $20,000. Charges against the other suspect are expected.
