Davis currently has the fourth-best distance in the entire country (69' 0 3/4") heading into the competition. Only 2012 World Indoor Gold medalist Ryan Whiting (73' 1 1/4"), 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Reese Hoffa (71' 2 3/4") and Ryan Crouser (69' 2 1/2") from the University of Texas have surpassed Davis' top mark this season. All are expected to compete at the USA Outdoor Championships.
Davis will head into the Championships with a string of eight-straight competitions of throwing 62 feet or better. Since first breaching the 60-foot barrier at the 2012 Hardin-Simmons Invitational, Davis has surpassed that mark in 14 of 18 meets.
Thus far in 2012, Davis has also exceeded his own school record on four occasions. Included in that total was Davis' most recent competition back on May 25 at the USATF Southwestern Association Championships, where his 69' 0 " effort put him on the precipice of shot putting's exclusive 70-foot club.
Fans can follow Davis at the Championships on the internet via USATF.tv, which will focus its coverage on the field events competition at that time.
