ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University volleyball team swept the University of Texas of the Permian Basin 3-0 (25-15, 26-24 and 25-21) Saturday afternoon in Heartland Conference action at Kimbrell Arena.
"What's good about today's match is that we met some of our smaller goals, which led to the win," McM head coach Cammie Petree said. "We wanted to hit above. 200, which we did, and have more than five blocks and exceeded that with 14."
Petree was pleased with the overall energy throughout the match.
"Everyone was in constant communication with each other." Petree said. "The players on the sidelines were cheering and helping out their teammates and everyone was on the same page."
Peyton Evans (Riverton, Utah/Western Texas College) had a match-high 14 kills and helped out with 16 assists and 10 digs.
Kalyn Guthrie (Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen HS) made her first start of the season and played exceptionally well. The sophomore recorded a match-high 24 assists and helped out with nine digs.
"Kalyn (Guthrie) played great," Petree said. "Our offense really benefitted from her play today."
Kayla Hines (Robinson, Texas/Robinson HS) and Kasi Conners (Abilene, Texas/Abilene HS) each helped out with seven kills.
Keeley Brogdon led UTPB (5-14, 3-6 Heartland) with 12 kills.
McMurry (8-11, 5-4 Heartland) returns to action Tuesday at St. Edward's University.
