The Brownwood City Council decided Tuesday to use Waldrop Construction to build the new central fire station. The budget to build the new fire station is just under three million dollars. Firefighters say the new fire station is well over due. The current fire house was built in the 1960s and in need of a desperate update. The new fire station will be twice the size of the old one, about 14,000 square feet. And it will include training rooms, areas of physical fitness, and an emergency operational center. But what firefighters are really excited for is more space. Fire Chief, Del Albright is also looking forward to the new location. The current fire house is on a busy intersection and he says that backing in the fire trucks, they have had close calls hitting other cars. The new fire station will be located downtown where the traffic flow is lighter. They expect the new fire station to be completed by June or July next summer.
