ABILENE, Texas — Senior Dillon Parkhill scored a goal in the 15th minute and the HSU defense made it hold up in a 1-0 win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference men’s soccer action at the HSU Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Parkhill, one of three HSU seniors honored before the game, scored off an assist from Colyn Moore. Juancho Jarquin and John Paul Lowenthal were the other two Cowboy seniors honored before the game.

The Cowboys outshot ETBU 13-7 and 8-3 on goal. Michael Vargas recorded the shutout in goal with three saves. Cody Hopson had six saves in goal for ETBU.

HSU has allowed just one goal all season in conference play and HSU now owns the American Southwest Conference record for most consecutive games without a loss. HSU is 11-0-5 over the last 16 conference games dating back to last season.

With the win, HSU takes over the No. 1 seed for the ASC Championship in two weeks. Mississippi College is not eligible for the ASC Championship. The Cowboys need a win at 1-16 Howard Payne on Thursday to claim the right to host the ASC Championship.

HSU is 7-3-5 on the season and 5-0-4 in ASC play. ETBU fell to 4-6-2 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play.
