Single Home Property Rezoned to Host Events Despite Neighbor's Request

A dispute about whether or not a north Abilene historic home can host events, came to an end at today’s Abilene City Council meeting.

A battle about whether or not a north Abilene historic home can host events, came to and end at today’s Abilene City Council meeting. The house that sits outside of Abilene Christian University is known to host events and weddings for years.

After a neighbor had a confrontation with the home owner, Stan West, the neighbor began to complain the events were a nuisance to the community. West stated the constant complaints from the neighbor led to a citation for each event.

The neighbor wanted the house to remain a single home property that couldn’t be used as an event center. However, as a resolution the city council made it a planned development where West can host parties.

Under planned development, West is required to have off street parking, finish events by 11 P.M., and have outdoor speakers that must be directed towards the home.

KTAB tried speaking with the neighbor about the issues with the property, but he refused.
