Researchers at the centers for disease control and prevention surveyed more than four hundred thousand people in 2011. Nationwide, slightly over half of the respondents reported getting enough aerobic activity. But less than a third met the muscle-strenghening guideline.
Among all states and the district of columbia, West Virginia and Tennessee tied with the lowest prevalence of people meeting both guidelines. On the flip side, colorado had the highest rate of people meeting the goals set for every adult.
-at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking.
-moderate or high intensity muscle-strengthening activities, involving all major muscle groups, on two or more days a week.
