Dogs are playing an increasing role in detecting cancer. Dogs have a strong sense of smell, up to a hundred thousand times better than humans. Scientists are now trying to develop technology that sniffs out cancer, just like dogs can. Scientist say a canine’s sense of smell is so refined, they may one day be able to decipher between different types of cancer. Researchers in the United States are already testing a machine called a “Mechanical Dog” that sniffs a patient’s breath to detect cancer. Experts say if trial go well, the technology could be a common screening tool within five years.
