Smart Woman: Life Saving Vest

One heart patient survived to see another Christmas thanks to a life saving vest. See how this breakthrough technology works.
Doreen Devlin almost lost her father on the day before Thanksgiving. While waiting for a life-saving heart surgery, Don Devlin went into cardiac arrest at home.

Fortunately the 70 year old Korean War veteran was wearing a device called Lifevest - the vest has sensors that can detect when a patient's heart is going to fail. Two shocks from the vest kept Devlin alive.

Devlin underwent surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York several weeks ago and now has a permanent defibrillator in his chest.

One hundred thousand patients have used the vest, and it made it possible for Devlin to celebrate this Christmas with his ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
