Your hair could give doctors an idea about your risk for heart disease.

A study out of the Netherlands looked at hair samples taken from nearly 300 senior citizens.

The researchers measured levels of the stress hormone cortisol in each sample of hair, and found those that had the most cortisol had the greatest risk for heart problems.

Hair samples are different from blood samples because they depict levels of the stress hormone over a long period, rather than a single point in time.
