Taylor Co. Deputy Sheriffs Meet to Begin Dept.'s First Association

Deputies say it's the first of many steps before officially becoming an association.
A group of Taylor Co. Deputy Sheriffs met at the Cotton Patch Cafe in S. Abilene to hear from a representative from an organization that helps support associations.

They'd like to form the department's first association.

Deputies would join on a voluntary basis and would pay a fee to be a member.

That would help with legal costs as well as charitable contributions from the group.

Deputies tell us the association is a way for them to join together as one voice and support their Sheriff, Ricky Bishop on addressing important issues like pay.

It would also serve as a way for them to reach out to the community and serve as a group instead of individually.

They'll be meeting with more organizations before determining their next steps.
