ABILENE - Abilene Christian University presents its third-annual Christmas Slam Tuesday night, Dec. 3 at Moody Coliseum. Festivities begin prior to the start of ACU women's basketball game vs. Texas A&M-Commerce at 5:30 p.m. and will continue through the men's home opener against Hillsdale Baptist.
Both ends of the doubleheader will be broadcast by Grant Boone on 98.1 FM - The Ticket and via the ACU Sports portal provided by Stretch Internet.
Tickets start at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children 18 and under, but fans can get in at discounted rate if they bring a new unwrapped toy for Abilene's Love and Care Ministries. Adults donating a toy will gain admission for $5 dollars, while children and seniors can get into the doubleheader for free.
Speaking of free, the first 200 students in attendance will be treated to free pizza and the first 500 fans to arrive will receive a free T-shirt provided by ACU's Students' Association and the ACU Department of Athletics. There also will be free Christmas cookies and candy handed out by ACU's Students' Association around the coliseum's concourse.
Prizes to win include free Whataburger for a year and tickets to the Dallas Cowboys' home game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 29, courtesy of VIP Sports Getaway.
VIP Sports Getaway and Wildcat Football also have set up a drawing for an all-inclusive Cowboys package that includes a one-night hotel stay, two passes to the Bill Bates Ultimate Tailgate at the Fishbone Grill across from Cowboys Stadium, and two tickets to the Cowboys and Eagles game on Dec. 29th. Tickets for the special drawing are priced at $20.
Special guests at the Christmas Slam will once again include Santa Claus, who will be taking pictures with fan and families thoughout the doubleheader, and ACU Provost Dr. Robert Rhodes, who will offer a blessing at halftime of the women's game.
ACU's Christmas Slam has been met with great enthusiasm by the student population the last two seasons, attracting close to 2,000 spectators.
The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) also honored Christmas Slam promoters for their efforts in 2011 and 2012. For the 2011 Slam, ACU received the Group III bronze medal in the categories of Single-Day Attendance Promotion and Single Newspaper Display Ad.
NACMA honored the school again for its artwork for the 2012 Slam as it was presented with the Group III bronze medal for Static Display Advertisement.
