Malfunctioning traffic signals create massive backups, headaches for holiday drivers
Flashing red lights stymied holiday traffic at one of the busiest intersections in the Big Country, following a weekend collision between a car and the electronics cabinet that controls the signal lights at Southwest Drive and the Winters Freeway in Abilene.
Traffic was backed up for blocks in all directions along Southwest Drive, Clack Street, and Danville Drive, as temporary stop signs were placed underneath the non-functioning signals.
City of Abilene crews finally had the signals working normally around 3 p.m. Monday.
